WOMEN'S MENTAL HEALTH, MED-FREE SUPPORT


Part of  “med free mental health” as a woman, is learning how to ride the waves of hormonal shifts throughout the week/month.  If you follow me on social media, you know I am always out on long walks in the sunshine, and out somewhere in nature several times a week.


What you may not know is that one of the things that brings me there, is a mood that needs uplifting. Since coming off of a 20 year use of anti-depressants (!) 8 years ago, I have learned a thing or two about navigating mood imbalances throughout the month... naturally!


Here are some of the things that I do to support my mental health when my hormones are in a big state of flux...


1.I take Ashwagandha when I am super irritable and feel my mind going dark.  It helps level things out no matter what your hormonal ratios are. (Adaptogenic Herbs do this, they adjust to your body’s unique needs) Check in with a doctor before starting this one. I like PURE ENCAPSULATIONS brand.



2. I am also really good about making sure I get enough Omega 3 fatty acids. I tend to even crave these…. I Supplement w them and also eat fatty, cold water fish like salmon which are rich in omega 3s. They ease raw nerves and help repair stressed out nerve endings… I like the brand NORDIC NATURALS, they are an excellent quality and digest very easily. They even make a gummy sweetened with stevia (so it wont spike blood sugar and create mood shifts) for kids!



... and that leads me to the third "must do" for me when I am irritable,


3. I take MAGNESIUM. You can take this orally, or take an Epsom salt bath (soak for min of 17  minutes and make sure to hydrate well after)  You can also eat magnesium rich foods like almonds , leafy greens and dark chocolate… which our brilliant bodies crave naturally when we could benefit from a little extra. Magnesium also repairs, restores and soothes raw nerve endings , making us feel calm and content, or at least making the icky moods more manageable… I will take magnesium and put it in my drinking water with fresh lemon or lime, it adds a nice flavor and makes me feel CALM! The brand I use is NATURAL VITALITY, they also make a gummy and their magnesium line is called "CALM"
